WAHOO - Golden Curls Ranch welcomes two BLM Curly Mustangs

Hello All,

WAHOO and a Texas sized Yee Haw....we have just been contacted by the Bureau of Land Management in Washington, DC that our bids were accepted for two Mustang Curly Mares. The mares who we suspect are mother and daughter were rounded up near Palomino Valley, NV. We hope to pick them up in approximately two weeks. You can see pictures of them on the BLM online adoption https://www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/onlinegallery.php. Our sorrel filly is number 3969 and the red dun mother mare is 5824. We will keep the blog updated and post more photos as we can....

Baby Gracie

Hello All,

On a beautiful Sunday morning in February (9th) three of the most beautiful baby goats arrived at Golden Curls Ranch. A lovely, spunky girl, then a handsome hardy boy and finally a dainty, adorable sister. Mama Becca was a real trooper she kept her cool even when grandmama Angie seemed frazzled! As weeks went by the babies grew stronger and more playful. Grandmama Angie bragged that Mama Becca gave her three (not just two which is the norm) wonderful baby goats to everyone she met.

Well, life has a a way of putting you in your place. One morning while daddy Brady, uncle Brownie, aunt Christina and Mama Becca were eating breakfast the first little one named Gracie hopped out of the stall. Our dog, Lee Marvin's natural canine instincts kicked in and he attacked her. She lived 23 hours longer and gave Grandmama Angie time to say goodbye complete with tears and hugs. Gracie is buried in our Rainbow Bridge by a huge Cedar tree. Lessons were taught and hopefully learned in this brief encounter with Gracie. First, you cannot control or change an animal's natural instincts. Respect them for who they are and what they were born to be. Secondly, you dont have to be on earth for a long time to touch someone so deeply. Finally, we will also remember Gracie and because of this unfortunate event we will cherish Denny and Dee all the more.

We are lucky to have this special Stallion at Golden Curls Ranch

Hello All,

Chester and I are spending more time in the saddle together. He is a five year old Stallion which means he thinks he knows best! But, having had several men (three wonderful sons) in my life who felt the same I've learn to use patience and respect and he soon agrees I have his best interest in mind. He is a sweet, sincere, soul with a beautiful spirit. How lucky I am to have this special stallion at my ranch.

Cinnamon River is doing great and feels right at home

Cinnamon River is a most wonderful personality. When you go up to him he reaches out and lays his head on your arm for you to give him a sweet rub or pat. River is quite a ladies man and our Jennies, Salsa and Sarita make a point of grazing nearby him in the pasture. He is a fast learner and wants very much to please. It is a pleasure spending time with him. We are really lucky to have River here at Golden Curls Ranch.

Mama Becca and our three new kids

Hello All,

It's been really busy at Golden Curls Ranch with all the fence building (and learning how to use proper tools), barn cats re-homing, stall mucking, feedings, grooming and learning to "properly" lung Chester and Lakota. Not to mention Cinnamon River is home! Yee Haw.....

So, I asked Mama Becca if she could help me out with this week's update and she said; "no problem I've been working on a new chapter" or baaaaaa, baaaaaaaa

Chester and Lakota greet Cinnamon River

Cinnamon River arrived home at Golden Curls Ranch this past Sunday night. It was a pleasant trip home and we arrived around 10:00pm. We always have a good time with our friends and trainers Chris and Caren Ruthven so we stayed a bit longer than we should be all went well. When arrived my hubby pulled the trailer into the arena and I jumped in beside River. I untied his lead rope and he turned to look at me. He slowly backed up as I spoke softly explaining how happy we were that we was home. After a nice walk around, several flakes of good hay and water he was ready to kick back and make himself at home.

Meantime, Chester and Lakota were standing with both ears straight ahead looking at River who was around 20 feet from them. Not a word was spoken. Funny, I remember the same encounter when we brought our youngest son, Nicholas home and his older brothers just kinda stared at him in silence. They love him with all their hearts and soon Chester and Lakota will be playing with each other in the pasture.

Chester and Cinnamon River grew up together since they were born approximately three months apart. So it seems natural that they know each other. I have heard horses have great memories so this is sure to be a good test.

Lakota and I welcome Cinnamon River to Golden Curls Ranch

Hello All,
After a brief bit of cold weather we are excited to get out and soak up the sunshine. It's a good day for fence work. We are busy making plans for Cinnamon River to come home and join his buddy and cousin
Renegait Chesterfield...Chester. Lakota has never met River so the cross fences will be a good chance to meet and greet. Cinnamon River has been working under saddle with Chris and Caren Ruthven, owners of C & C Colt Training for five months. He is a smooth ride and his gaited trot is a joy to ride.

River is a gelding approaching five years of age. He has the wonderful bloodline of
Walker's Prince T ABC # ABC 90 (f) MFTHBA F-12781 and is a handsome Strawberry Roan with Sabino markings like his mom Cheyenn's Penney, ABC#ABC 1034 (f) MFTHBA87-30135.

Cinnamon River - his name really fits - will be a wonderful addition to Golden Curls Ranch and his gaited trot will be heaven sent for older folks like me whose body has needs a less jarring post. Check back soon and see more photos of this handsome and loving horse.
